The Ottawa Circus

1987

Acrylic, Wood, Metal, Red tape

96 × 60"

The Ottawa Circus 1980 is about wheels within wheels and red tape and was made for a group exhibition called The Circus shown at the Silverstone Gallery in Montreal. It’s almost as high as the average room. The wooden cut out figures represent every level of government worker from the cleaners to the prime minister. At that time, as shown on the piece, not many, if any, women rose very far up the ranks.
